We have had requests for a smaller size of our very popular Frit and Annealer Trays. So we now have a smaller size tray and we also added a version with a handle. For annealing, these stainless steel trays hold marbles and such from rolling around and keep multiple lampworkers loose items separate. A typical annealer can hold several trays across. As a frit tray, the low profile gives mandrel clearance on small diameter beads while still keeping the frit from spilling.

Tool Redesign Rod and Tool Rest

|
Small Hole or Large Hole Model Only $7.00 Each
1 Each $12 For Both
|
We've redesigned our Rod Rest. In fact, we've turned it into two versions and also renamed it. We now call it the Rod and Tool Rest, because it does so much more than hold just glass rods.
Did you know the Rod Rest was the first tool developed by us, before we were even Arrow Springs back in 1993? We are always open to feedback, so after nearly two decades we are changing the design to reflect recent suggestions.
The first is to make it a little shorter to better accommodate short rods. With the old taller version, short glass rods would slide off easier. The second was to also offer a version with closer holes. So now we have two versions. The large hole model has a ½" wide cradles: 7½ long, 7/8" high at the bottom of the cradle and 11 cradles across. The small hole model has a ¼" wide cradles: 7½ long, ¾" high at the bottom of the cradle and 20 cradles across. The large hole model is ideal when you want everything spaced and not touching the glass rod or tool next to it. The small hole model allows you to have a home for lots of glass rods or narrow tools.
Sold separately or get both and save. Place the small hole model on one side of the flame for the hand that holds glass rods and tools such as rakes. Place the large hole model on the other side for holding narrow tools you want to keep clean, such as punties.

JC Enamel & Glass Sifters
Coil Actuator with O-ring stop for JC Sifters and Line & Dot Applicators that do not have them already.
|
The JC Metal Sifters and JC Line & Dot Applicators. These tools dispense frit, powdered glass and enamels by shaking, tapping, or for the greatest control, by moving the Coil Actuator. It is incredibly easy to use. With just one hand, you hold the Sifter or Applicator and move the Coil Actuator forward and backward with either your finger or thumb. You easily control the volume of glass or enamel, from a gentle sprinkle to a heavy flow, by the pressure applied and the speed you move the Coil Actuator. The standard screen mesh size for the sifters is 60. This gives good flow, yet also gives you great control for shading. A 60 mesh screen is generally preferred for its ability for shading as well as its ability to efficiently cover a small item, such as a bead, quickly. We also offer all the Sifters in a 40 mesh screen. You may be familiar with this size, as that is what is in the red plastic bodied sifters. Enamellists also like the 40 mesh screen for its ability to cover a large area quickly and thoroughly. The two largest sizes are not pictured. Sifters size chart.

Ludwig Multi-Line Blade Tool

Only $24.95
|
Long time Arrow Springs toolmaker and accomplished beadmaker, Rob Ludwig, was thinking about beads while making a run of Sharon Shapers (Utility Blade Tool) and he thought, what if I put four blades side-by-side with a space between them? And viola! Not all great tool ideas are so great, but this one sure is.
Just heat up an area of your bead, pendant or other glass work and press the sharp edges of the blades against the hot glass. It's that simple. Because all four line impressions are made at once, they all look crisp, neat and clean, unlike when an impression made one at a time distorts the one before it. If you want more than four line impressions wide, no problem. Simply heat an area of the glass next to the first set of impressions and press the tool to the hot glass next to it, while overlapping one two or three of the lines. This way you can add one, two or three lines at a time while the overlapping keeps the previous lines from losing their detail. Two versions; One with the blades spaced 3/32" apart and one spaced at 1/8".

Blow Hose Assembly With Puffy Mandrel Adaptor

Complete Assembly ONLY $19.00
Puffy Mandrel Adaptor for Existing Blow Hose Assembly ONLY $1.49
|
Here's a great innovative idea from Laurie Nessel, an adaptor that allows a Blow Hose Assembly to work with Puffy Mandrels. Six feet of latex tubing is attached to a 3/16" Angled Blow Hose Swivel at one end and a comfort mouth piece at the other. The long hose lets you drape it around your shoulders for comfort, or you can cut it to whatever length you prefer. The simple Adaptor lets you connect either 3/32" or 1/8" Puffy Mandrels. Now you can increase your control in creating hollow beads by working the glass in the flame while applying air pressure at the same time. More precise control and even gigantic hollow beads are easier to achieve.
Artist Profile - Laurie Nessel Visit Laurie's website at LaurieNessel.com and read about her Puffy Mandrel with Blow Hose Assembly tutorial in The Flow, Fall 2010 issue. She is teaching a Puffy Mandrel workshop with Blow Hose Assembly at the Mesa Arts Center on February 12th, 2012. Laurie Nessel is lead instructor of the glass studio and teaches flameworking along with Dolly Ahles at the Mesa Arts Center in Mesa, Arizona. She continually experiments in glass, but is always drawn back to core-formed vessels, sculpted plants and animals. She also paints, does traditional stained glass and nature photography. She spends her spare time searching for snakes, lizards and tortoises in the desert.

Borosilicate Punty Handles

Borosilicate glass is great to use as punties because it is much more resistant to thermal shock than soft glass. Used by lightly tacking skinny end of punty to marbles, buttons, and sculptural work. Also works well for pulling down murrini.

Arm and Hand Rest
$139.95 |
The long awaited, newly designed Arrow Springs Hand and Arm Rest has arrived. It's everything you expect it should be and more. Starting with a stout chassis, we mounted swept back wings, one on each side. Without the use of tools the wings easily adjust to a custom fit for hours of lampworking enjoyment. The wings adjust up and down so you can properly hold your glass rods and tools in alignment with the flame comfortably. They also rotate so the angle of their generous 2½" (6.3cm) padded width conforms to your forearm or wrist or hand comfortably. Get the idea here, ergonomics and comfort. If you can work comfortably, you can work better and longer and enjoy it more. From tip-to-tip, the wing span is 22" (56cm), yet with their cantilevered design, you can easily reach under them when you need to present the glass or tool from under the flame.
Now for the really cool part: between the wings is a snap-in graphite pad with a very generous 2½" x 3¾" working area. The graphite pad that comes standard is smooth on both sides. Use the second side should you damage the first or carve patterns or molds into it for an infinite variety of possibilities. In the coming weeks we will be offering accessory graphite pads with some of the classic shapes and profiles found in our hand held shaping molds, such as, but not limited to, Marble Molds, Osibin Lentil Shaper and Osibin Formers. Changing the graphite is literally a snap.
Finally, at the center of the Hand and Arm Rest the chassis adjusts securely around your torch. With four base positions forward to back and height adjustment, it perfectly mates with the following torches or other torches of similar size or shape: Minor Burner, Mega Minor Burner, Mid Range, Mini CC, WildCat, HellCat, Little Dragon 7 Bead Burner, Little Dragon 21 Bead Burner, Bullet Burner, Cricket, Bobcat, Lynx and Cheetah. Torch not included.

Barley Baleen Tools

|
From left to right, beads made using:
Sharon Shaper (Utility Blade Tool) Barley Baleen Curve Razor Tool #1 Barley Baleen Wave Razor Tool #1
|
From the talented creations of Michael Barley's Baleen series of beads comes the Arrow Springs line of Barley Baleen Tools. When Michael visited the Whale Museum in Friday Harbor, Washington and saw a display of baleen, the filtering structure in the mouth of baleen whales, he was intrigued and inspired to incorporate the pattern as a design element into his beadwork. Today, Michael's Baleen Bead designs are world renowned for their beauty.
Up until now, Michael has always used the Sharon Shaper as the primary tool for forming the baleen design element. Arrow Springs has designed five new tools to complement the Sharon Shaper. Like the Sharon Shaper, which is a sharp edged razor tool, four of the new tools are curved to each have a different radius, and a fifth tool is corrugated. The tools are available through Arrow Springs and an eighteen page tutorial is available for purchase from Michael on his Etsy web page. It is an excellent tutorial with clear step-by-step instruction and plenty of color pictures. The second to last page shows examples of Michael's Baleen Beads using the Sharon Shaper, while the last page shows examples of Michael's Baleen Beads using the newly available Barley Baleen Tools.
The first bead on page 18 of Michael's tutorial was made using the Barley Curve Razor Tool #2. Curve Razor Tool #1 has a tighter radius. #3 has a larger radius than #2 and #4 is larger than #3. The second bead on the page was made with the Barley Wave Razor Tool. Of course, the use of these tools is not limited to just making Barley Baleen beads. They can be used for any lampworking application your imagination can come up with. Michale's Etsy Web page: http://www.etsy.com/shop/michaelbarley

Twisty Tweezers

$8.95
|

|
If you use tweezers to pull stringers and make twisties, the new Twisty Tweezers is a must have tool. We took 6½" locking tweezers and reshaped the tip by modifying the grind and the angle of the points. The resulting tool reaches into the end of the molten glass with a minimal amount of distortion and a minimal amount of glass wasted with the grip. All this without the points sticking. The spring loaded tweezers with their intercepting points hold firm and allow you to rotate them for making twisties without releasing the glass. You can even leave the glass in the grip of the tweezers as an application tool.

Greedy Grabbers

Short size pictured
$14.95 & $16.95
|

|
Like the Twisty Tweezers above, the Greedy Grabbers came out of the recent class taught by Hayley Tsang here at Arrow Springs. Both were tested, approved and named by Hayley and the students. The Greedy Grabbers are similar to our larger Uncle Al Rod Grabbers in their holding action. Instead of large hemostats, the Greedy Grabbers are made with locking tweezers. With a delicate, yet firm hold, the original, short 4¾" grabbers have an incredible range, from 1mm stringers to 7mm rods. The new longer 6¼" size has the same size holding range, but with a little more holding power and a longer handle.
