[Home] [Catalog] [BellaDonna Glass] [Frit Mixes - For COE 96 and 104] [Dichroic] [Thompson Enamels]

We carry a large variety of lampworking glass, as well as sheet glass for fusing and stained glass.

There are two categories of glass; Soft glass and Hard glass.

Soft glass is a soda lime based glass and is called soft because it has a lower melting temperature, holds heat longer, has a longer working time when removed from the flame, and is softer and easier to manipulate.

Hard glass is a borosilicate based glass and is called hard because it has a higher melting temperature, does not hold heat very long, has a short working time when removed from the flame and is stiffer than soft glass.

Effetre (Moretti) and BellaDonna are soft glasses.
Northstar and Pyrex are hard glasses.

How glass is sold and weighed through the Arrow Springs website.
Products on our shopping cart are sold as whole items. Some products are packaged in sets or by volume or weight, but are still unique items and can not be subdivided. For your convenience, products sold by weight or volume have been packaged in multiple sizes which can be purchased separately to provide the specific amount desired.

For example, glass rods are packaged in ¼ (.25) pound and 1 pound units. To purchase a total of 1½ (1.5) pounds of a particular glass you could order:

6 each of the ¼ pound items,
or
1 each of the 1 pound item PLUS 2 each of the ¼ pound items.

Some items have discounts for purchasing larger volumes or weights, including most glasses. The discount is based on the total amount of the specific product, and will NOT be affected by the mix of shopping cart items used to achieve the total. Arrow Springs will manually adjust the shopping cart list price to include any applicable discounts when your order is processed. Therefore, in the above example both product groupings would be priced as 1½ pounds and receive our 1 pound discount on the total weight, resulting in the same price with the same discount applied!

For credit card purchases, the projected amount of the order is authorized (essentially held in escrow) at the time the order is placed. The authorization includes a deposit for the estimated shipping charges. Discounts, gift certificates, coupons, or other adjustments are applied when the order is processed, and the specific cost of shipping (based on the exact weight) is determined. Only the actual amount due is captured (transfer from escrow). Any unused authorization is released and credited to the unused balance on the credit card.

PayPal does not have an escrow mechanism, so any difference between the collected amount and the exact total is returned as a refund when the order is processed.

Very important: We try hard to provide the amounts ordered, however in some cases it is not practical or even desirable to meet precise weights.

Rod weights vary from rod to rod of even the same color, and seldom weigh out to the exact amount requested without including a partial rod, which is an undesirable solution. We do not ship partial rods. Our method is to place rods on the scale and target the ordered weight. If the weight is under, we place another rod on the scale. If the weight goes over, we compare the underweight to the overweight and then choose the quantity that comes closest to the target weight.

Charges are based on the actual weight shipped, at the pricing for which that item qualifies. Unless ordering large diameter clear rods, the actual billed weight is usually within a few hundredths of a pound. We try to get as close to the ordered weight as we can by varying rod diameters available in stock.
